Advice for healthy new year!

There is no time to rejuvenate your health than the start of a new year. Just a few simple changes in your diet, exercise and lifestyle can have a positive impact on your health and can also prevent you from developing serious health problems in the future. The following are my top-four recommendations for the new year:

  1. Get active! Try to exercise at least 4 to 5 days a week. Studies show that just 8 minutes of exercise (walk, bike, swim etc) gives the same benefits as a 20 minute work out.
  2. Brown-bagging your lunch is a great way to control your fat and sugar intake while adding nutritious fruits,vegetables and grains to your mid-day meal.
  3. Get to bed early! Studies show people who regularly log 8 hours of sleep a night live longer, improves memory and brain function, reduces inflammation, lowers stress and tension, and you lose weight faster.
  4. Stay hydrated!  Current research says 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.
